Easing the restrictions on elective surgery

Written by Ali Zarrouk on .

As announce the the Prime Minister yeaterday the Federal Government has agreed that non-urgent, but clinically relevant surgery can recommence at a reduced level. Based on advice from the Australian Medical Assosciation, the ANZMOSS and Healthscope we are restarting booking some patients for surgery from next week. This will be a gradual process so as not to create new hot spots of COVID-19 after successful "flatting of the curve".

We are starting to book patients with symptomatic gallstones and hernias and patients wating for bariatric operations but not likley will require admission to ICU postop. We are also recommencing gastroscopies and colonoscopies.

At this stage revisional bariatric operations will remain on hold until further advice.
