Alison is a Registered Nurse, graduating in 2007 from University of Technology Sydney with a Bachelor of Nursing.
She has over 10 years experience in both medical and surgical nursing and has worked in both public
and private hospitals.
Since 2015, Alison has been working in Campbelltown Private Hospital looking after a variety of post
operative patients but has developed a keen interest in obesity surgeries and the pre + post operative
management of baraitric surgery patients.
You will see Alison from your first appointment onwards.
Dr. Rachel Kirby is a specialist Upper GI and Bariatric Surgeon with a comprehensive background in metabolic health, advanced laparoscopic surgery, and endoscopy. She consults and operates at both Campbelltown Private Hospital and The George Centre in Gledswood Hills. She has a special interest in weight loss surgery and management, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and minimally invasive gallbladder and hernia repair.
She provides support for patients seeking non-surgical options for weight loss, including the medical management of obesity using GLP-1 medications such as Wegovy (semaglutide) and Mounjaro (tirzepatide). Dr Kirby works closely with GPs and our dietitian to deliver personalised, evidence-based treatment plans for patients who are overweight or obese.
She completed her medical degree with honours from University College Dublin in 2005 and commenced her surgical training in Ireland, completing the MRCSI in 2008 before emigrating to Australia.
Dr. Kirby became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2015 after completing advanced general surgical training within the NSW training network.
Dr. Kirby undertook two years of high-level sub-specialty training in mixed hepatopancreatobiliary and oesophagogastric surgery through the ANZHPBA program at the Western Hospital, Melbourne in 2016 and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney in 2017.
Since 2018, she has worked as a Visiting Medical Officer in Upper GI and Bariatric Surgery at Campbelltown Private Hospital.
She is GESA-certified in both gastroscopy and colonoscopy and was recertified in colonoscopy in 2025.
Her commitment to education and continuous learning is demonstrated through her completion of multiple recognised training programs, including:
- Sydney Professional Certificate in Metabolic Health (2022)
- IFSO Fundamentals of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Course (2023)
- RoboSET Robotic Simulation Skills Course (2024)
- SCOPE School Certificate in Obesity Management (2025)
- Melbourne University Obesity Course (2025)
Dr Kirby is also a RACS Clinical Examiner and maintains a strong interest in research, teaching, and surgical innovation.
