Â
Our Bariatric Surgery Support Group met again on Monday 2nd September in the Education Hub at The George Centre, Gregory Hills. It was another successful night with around 40 people in attendance, including returning members and several new faces.
Warm Conversations and Healthy Samples
The group enjoyed a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere with tea, coffee, and fruit skewers. There were also protein water samples and meal replacement bar samples generously provided by BN Healthy. As always, we held our lucky door prize, which added a bit of fun to the evening.
Special Guest Speaker: Dietitian Angela Askew
This meeting featured a very popular guest speaker — Angela Askew, an experienced bariatric dietitian who works closely with patients after gastric sleeve, sleeve gastrectomy, and gastric bypass surgery.
Angela shared valuable tips on:
-
Meal planning for bariatric patients
-
Managing hunger cues
-
Staying consistent with healthy eating
-
How to navigate social settings like family gatherings
The session included a lively Q&A where attendees asked a range of practical questions, and there was excellent discussion among the group. It was clear that many people face similar challenges, and sharing strategies helped everyone feel more supported.
