August 2024 Bariatric Support Group Meeting: Shared Stories and Support

 

Our second Bariatric Surgery Support Group meeting was held on Monday 5th August 2024 in the Education Hub at The George Centre, Gregory Hills. It was another fantastic evening with 35 people in attendance, and once again, the room was filled with kindness, encouragement, and connection.

July 2024 Bariatric Surgery Support Group Launches at The George Centre

 

Our very first Bariatric Surgery Support Group meeting was held on Monday 8th July in the Education Hub at The George Centre, Gregory Hills. It was a wonderful success.

A Welcoming Start

Around 40 people attended, creating a warm and supportive environment where everyone could connect, share stories, and realise they are not alone. Many participants made new friends, and it was clear that a sense of community is something many have been looking for on their weight loss surgery journey, including those who have had a  sleeve gastrectomy, or gastric bypass.

Bile reflux after One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass

Bile reflux is a recognised complication of one anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB), caused by the direct connection between the stomach pouch and small bowel. While many patients have bile in the pouch without symptoms, a subset develop troublesome burning, bilious vomiting, or inflammation that may require medication or revisional surgery.
